Ok, so it's been ages. I made it home in the end -not via Eurostar but 1 train, 1 ferry, 1 lovely group of pensioners who gave me a lift on their coach from Calais to Cologne -and 1 more train.
It took 19 hours but I travelled without even spending a penny!

Snow chaos didn't stop and I ended up staying longer than planned. I have been back for a couple of weeks now but didn't feel like blogging. So here we go again.

New project for illustration -something to do with pickled Guinea pigs. Early roughs.
And last illustration project "imagined record collection"

And -I know this is a little late but: happy new year!

Today I actually left the house and ventured out for a little riverside walk. I figured it would do me good to get some fresh air and do some walking.
My head weighs a ton, my ears feel funny. I almost never made it home again. So I'm back in bed.
I don't wanna be ill anymore!

This picture lay hidden in a box for years. It is one of only 4 I have from my grandfathers once vast archive which unfortunately got destroyed after he died. I have very fond memories of him taking me around all those old castles in the Koblenz area where my grandparents lived. This has always been my favourite of all: Burg Eltz. It's a very special place. For me anyway.
My grandfather was a photographer and we would go walking, taking pictures and afterwards he would take me to the darkroom, where we would spend hours, him always patiently explaining every little step.
I was only 8 or 9 years old and a little later he would forget. He got Altzheimers, and vanished bit for bit.
I framed the picture and put it on my desk. So I won't forget.

I'm ill. Don't feel good at all and not sleeping properly because of stupid sinus infection when I should be writing essays. Also I realised that I'm not really writing much here. I guess I'm a bit shy... but I'll try and write more in the future.

These pictures are from back in february when our illustration group found out the tutor wasn't gonna come in so we went to a pub in Camden -via a fancy dress shop and had a fun time.

Baby ladybird hasn't moved from yesterdays honey munching spot but is still alive. Big fat ladybird is hiding I think, I can't see or hear it. Hm.

These two little fellas have been living in my chinese paper lampshade for the past month or so, making a hell of a noise. This morning they lay next to my bed, exhausted. So I fed them a little honey which they seem to be enjoying. They're still at it.

I had a friend over from Germany for a few days last week which was fun -we went from Tower Bridge to Canary Wharf by boat which is something you don't do every day!

Met him in the garden yesterday where he was chasing leafs and he invited himself in and stayed for a while. He is such an adorable cat and still very young -I wish I could have kept him but then I guess he already has a family.

I got terribly stuck with the whole pug thing and went back to square one. I researched myself dizzy on 'personal myth' and came out even more confused.

So I took some time off and went through all my old sketchbooks. -Well, I say sketchbooks, it's really just many bits of lose papers stuck in sketchbooks containing other scraps from magazines and quotes that I picked up somewhere...

Anyway, I think I know where I'm going now. About time too -the exhibition is in a week...

Also, I am trying to be a good student and keeping a proper sketchbook for the first time.

This is Peck Sparrow -I think he is the leader of a riotous Berlin street gang. Cupcake bakeries seem to be the main target of their attacks. Hm.

St Pugbert?

It wasn't the St Hubert myth after all. It was this little sketch, that the idea of the pug with antlers came from.

It was done by German comedian Loriot and it's about how pugs were completely overbred by ruthless humans. Up until the 16th century pugs used to be free, wild, moose like creatures but were then bred down to their current appearance since fourteen pointers were slightly cumbersome in the laps of elderly ladies.

Only in Germany the shy forest pug still lives a reclusive cave life and costs the taxpayer a lot of money because he creates havoc in the forests...

One more and I am done updating for now...

Uni started again yesterday with a different Illustration Tutor and a fun day of drawing. This is on a rather big scale which I'm not used to since my drawings are usually really small (I painted with my fingers because there weren't enough brushes -it's more fun anyway). The first project we got is called 'Personal Myth' and we were told the drawing could be about something that we're obsessed with. Now I am obsessed with pugs (I wanted one since I was 14 years old and as soon as I can afford it I will have one!) so that was the obvious choice. For some reason I added antlers and then the cross. It kind of popped into my mind and I knew there was a myth about that but I couldn't remember it. I checked it when I got home, it's the myth of St. Hubert.

I have been back for while now and actually started doing some work but it is still in this unfinished state because the big 'let's redecorate the house' project interfered. My housemate and I are still painting the hallway, we ran out of wallpaper and had to order more -which is still in the post and about 15 km's of door and skirting surface are still waiting to be varnished -there is no end in sight...

Berlin

So I have been away all summer -with no real access to the internet and I haven't exactly done any work either. I spent a whole month in Berlin, trying to find a job -big failure. But at least I had the chance to explore the city...

And then I went back home and wasted another month -not doing anything but swimming, seeing friends, welcoming my little brother back from Australia and taking lots of pictures. I will post a few of those another time.
